Mission Creep!

A definition of “Mission Creep” goes like this:

“a gradual shift in objectives during the course of a military campaign, often resulting in an unplanned long-term commitment.”

Sound familiar?  When applied to military operations, this could surely be applied to Viet Nam, Iraq and Afghanistan.  Possibly Korea as well.

Now it looms on the horizon with regards to “immigration reform”.  For years, we have been told to accept the fact that we have 11-12 million individuals in this country illegally.  Then came the “DACA” group.  They were supposed to comprise 800,000 “children” who had come illegally to this country with their parents.  As such, it wasn’t their choice, and so wasn’t their fault. I Don’t Want DACA!

I have no sympathy for them. Their parents knowingly broke the law. They are in this county illegally.  End of message. To allow the DACA group to stay without penalty is a travesty to our legal system, and an insult to all those former and future individuals who respect our immigration laws and earn the right to be in this country. LEGALLY!

Since the attempt to bully the administration to accept unrestricted numbers of DACA members, by making it part of the continuing resolution to fund our government failed, The DACA protestors have grown more bold, and violent as well. They even have gone so far as to storm the office and residence of their biggest supporter, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY). Poetic justice, similar to when they booed Nancy Pelosi off the stage because she was’t strident enough in their support. Continue reading I Don’t Want DACA!

A Shutdown in the Sick Time

This has been the worst fall and winter for the various cold season illnesses that I can recall, at least back to the days of the “Hong Kong Flu” in the early 70’s.  I’ve been down twice already.  First,  just before Thanksgiving, with a nasty flu like intestinal virus, and now with “RSV”, a highly contagious virus strain which causes a deep and heavy cough and chest congestion.

Added to this unhealthy and unhappy period during the holidays has been the constant haranguing by the left about the “evils” of the Trump regime.  According to the Democrats, who are obviously lusting over the possibility of regaining control of the House and Senate in the fall elections, the country has never been in worse shape, and under more incompetent leadership, than in the twelve month period which started with President Trump’s inauguration last January.  But do the facts match their doomsday rhetoric?  For most Americans, I would say absolutely not. Continue reading A Shutdown in the Sick Time

DACA Common Sense.

Let me try to understand this.  Schumer, Pelosi and the rest of  the Democrats are willing to shut down the government, with all that entails, to benefit a group of people who are in this country illegally.  There is no debate on their status.  In doing so Democratic politicians will adversely affect American citizens.  What’s wrong with this picture?

If we need to address the “DACA” issue, and I believe we do, we must follow the laws as currently written.  We cannot give exceptions to one group at the expense of another.  The parents of the DACA group knew exactly what they were doing when they brought these “children” (many in their teens by the way) mainly across our southern border. Trump and the “S” Word.

Before the 2016 election he used the “P” word and the left went apoplectic.  Now he may have used the “S” word, as in “Sh**hole”, and the left once again rises in righteous indignation.  They don’t care that NFL players kneel during the playing of the National Anthem.  They aren’t bothered that the Black Lives Matter crowd calls for police to be killed and thugs to be venerated.  They have no problem with a beautiful young woman being murdered by a convicted felon who had been deported numerous times before he finally killed someone.  They applaud the concept of sanctuary cities and tens of millions of illegal aliens streaming across our southern borders, sometimes bringing drugs and crime with them.  But WORDS, especially from a President they detest, enrage them. DACA and the Wall

From the beginning, the “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals” (DACA) initiative has been based on a false premise.  Basically, we have been told that something like 800,000 individuals who were brought into this country illegally by their parents are entitled to remain because “it wasn’t their fault”.  Under that concept, all our immigration laws are basically fungible, subject to being replaced by whatever is expedient or “necessary” at the moment. Think about that for a bit.  What other laws are “irrelevant” in the minds of Progressives?  Certainly voter laws.  No one should have to prove who they are to vote! That is a right!  So, we are assured that there is no voter fraud.  One of our most sacred privileges as citizens, the ability to determine by our ballot who will represent us in government, and in many cases judge us from the bench, is not threatened by allowing anyone to vote who “certifies” they are legal voters at the polling place.  It isn’t even required that you make this statement in English.  That would be prejudicial!

So, back to DACA. Those who believe that if the DACA individuals are allowed to stay in our country, with no restrictions, they won’t soon demand that their parents and other illegal family members should also get a free pass to remain as well doesn’t understand human nature.  Of course they will. They will also demand a fast track to citizenship.  That is inevitable.  Then, the real goal of DACA will rear it’s head.  What’s that?  Why “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” of course.  Legalization of tens of millions of illegal immigrants will be demanded.  Amnesty once again, pure and simple.  For those who believe the 12 million figure which is constantly mentioned as the total number of illegals in the country, ponder the fact that estimate hasn’t changed in the last 15 or 20 years. Pardon me, but does that mean that for every illegal coming across our border each year, one goes home?

Meanwhile, back at the “Wall”.  How can we possibly build such an edifice which will be viewed as “Offensive” to all those south of our border?  Mexico won’y pay for it as Trump promised anyway, according to the opposition.  Open borders are the wave of the future. National values are passé.  We are “Citizens of the World”!  Follow Europe’s lead.  After all, look how well that’s working out for them.

We can only hope that President Trump will hang in there and demand a quid pro quo with the DACA issue.  No wall, no DACA, and no Comprehensive Immigration Reform.  And I’m not referring to funding the wall, I’m talking about building it.   When that’s well under way, we can talk about the other issues, but not before.
