DACA Common Sense.

Let me try to understand this.  Schumer, Pelosi and the rest of  the Democrats are willing to shut down the government, with all that entails, to benefit a group of people who are in this country illegally.  There is no debate on their status.  In doing so Democratic politicians will adversely affect American citizens.  What’s wrong with this picture?

If we need to address the “DACA” issue, and I believe we do, we must follow the laws as currently written.  We cannot give exceptions to one group at the expense of another.  The parents of the DACA group knew exactly what they were doing when they brought these “children” (many in their teens by the way) mainly across our southern border.

The DACA individuals shouldn’t be penalized if they are finally deported.  They should be able to apply for green card status, and a road to citizenship, without the stigma of a regular deportee.  However, they should not be given a free pass either, and allowed to “Jump the Line” ahead of those who have followed the rules and patiently waited their turn to enter our country.

As always, the liberal/progressives, who are the base of Democratic party, are dealing with the DACA issue from an emotional rather than practical point of view.  They continue to refer to the DACA group as “dreamers” and “children” when in fact many of them are indeed young adults in their twenties.

Our immigration system must be brought into the 21st Century, in line with the other developed First World countries.  We must admit immigrants who bring something to our shores but their poverty.  Merit based immigration is not racist, it’s common sense.  It would be interesting to see who benefit most from “Chain Migration” and the “Lottery”.   I’ll bet it’s people from the poorest countries, with the least to offer our nation.   We must fight against the concept that American citizenship is a “right” rather than a privilege to be earned.
