Robert Byrd and the hypocrisy of the left

The hypocrisy of the left continues to amaze. They have always claimed to be the champion of the poor, the minorities, and the working man.  In fact, their actions continue to prove otherwise. The poor, which encompass a large portion of the minorities, have been hurt, far more than they have been helped, by the policies and political positions of the Democratic Party.  Welfare, ETB cards and “Aid To Dependent Children” (many illegitimate) does nothing to elevate society.  The supposed “safety net” has simply become a hammock for too many families, where welfare has become a family tradition rather than a hand up, to help those in temporary distress.

The latest hypocrisy is the demand to remove certain historical monuments and statues because they are “offensive” to a portion of our population, forgetting to realize that they are venerated by another, equally large group.  You cannot learn from history by pretending it doesn’t exist.  Among the statues the left are demanding to be removed are some of those in the National Statuary Hall in the United States Capitol Building which represent formers members of the Confederacy.

What the left has no problem with is the statues of former Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV) which are prominently displayed in the West Virginia Capitol building and many other places in the state.  Byrd was a long time Senator from that state (1959-2010).  As a “Dixiecrat” he steadily fought against Civil Rights legislation, and voted against both black nominees to the United States Supreme Court, Thurgood Marshall and Clarence Thomas.  He was also a former leader of the Ku Klux Klan.  In the 1940’s Byrd was an “Exalted Cyclops” in the West Virginia Klan, forming his own “Klavern” of about 125 members.  He is a man who once vowed never to fight in the military along with “race mongrels” or “with a negro by my side.”

After his death in 2010, Byrd was eulogized by Hillary Clinton as a long time friend and mentor of both herself and Bill Clinton.  Bill Clinton once said that Byrd should be excused for his Klan membership because “You had to do that sort of stuff to get elected in the south in those days”.  That sort of says it all, doesn’t it?  It’s acceptable to sacrifice your personal honor on the altar of your political ambition.

In a final example of the venal behavior of the left we have the professor at the University of Tampa who tweeted that the people of Texas deserved the “Instant Bad Karma” of Hurricane Harvey because they voted for President Trump.  He brought on a bit of bad karma for himself.  The university just fired him.
