Voting “Present”

Yesterday, there was a non-binding resolution passed in the House of Representatives.  The vote was 244 for, 35 against, and 133 voting “Present”. The resolution expressed support for United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The Democrats have come out in favor of abolishing that agency, describing it’s agents variously as Nazis, thugs or worse.  So, who do you think voted for the resolution?  Hint, they all have an “R” after their name.  Who voted against it?  Yep, they have a “D” after theirs.  So, who were so undecided that they couldn’t state an opinion either way, and voted “present”?  Oops, they were “D’s” as well!  “Profiles In Courage” there, for sure.

Democrats, including former President Obama, have become the party of “NO”.  Declaring themselves to be the “Resistance”, against the policies of the Trump administration, they don’t seem able to rationally discuss the many crucial issues we face as a nation.  It always breaks down to a tirade against Republicans and the policies they support.

Barack Obama avoided political confrontation during his time as an Illinois State Senator by frequently voting “present” on controversial issues.  That pattern of behavior continued in the United States Senate.  After being elected President on a “Hope and Change” platform, his first two years in office were blessed by his party being in control of the House and Senate.  Except for pushing “Obamacare” on the American people by falsely promising lower medical costs and being able to keep your medical plan and doctor, his administration basically “led from behind” in it’s domestic and international policies for the rest of his terms.  Many of his actions created a political  atmosphere which caused the loss of both houses to the Republicans.

Now, by fighting against every effort made by President Trump to secure our borders, enforce our immigration laws, strengthen our military, ensure our freedom from dependence on foreign oil and gain a level playing field in our trade agreements with other countries, they think they can regain control of our legislative branch and impeach the President.  I dearly hope they are wrong.

Deep down, Americans know that freedom isn’t “free”, and that our government, from the Chief Executive Officer on down, must put AMERICA first!  Other countries rightly do that, and there is no reason we should not do so as well.

The regressive policies of the last administration must come to an end, and the divisive “identity politics” of the Democrats be soundly rejected by the voting public.  We are at a crossroads.  Either we will return to greatness, or we will gradually slide further into insolvency and decay.  Election Day 2018 may prove to be the most important in our nation’s history.  We can only hope that Americans won’t in effect vote “present” on November 6th, by failing to exercise their right to show up at the polls, and vote!
