Bleeding for a shark?

I never cease to be amazed at the naïveté of some individuals when it comes to world affairs and how they affect this country.  Barack Obama, on the surface, appeared to be an intelligent individual.  That’s how he got elected to his first term, although his qualifications for the job were virtually nonexistent.  People wanted to believe that this young, mixed race man was the future of America, a post racial nirvana where we would all just “get along” together.  He took that attitude into his world view as well.  If we would only realize that America was nothing special, just one of hundreds of nations represented by that august body, the United Nations, we would finally take our rightful place and “lead from behind”, no better or worse than anyone else.  Problem is, we ARE better, and many others ARE indeed worse.  Take Iran and North Korea for instance.

From the time of another naive president, Jimmy Carter, we have looked the other way while the Iranian mullahs have plotted to bring back the Muslim Caliphate and destroy the United States, Israel and any other non-Muslim country which would not bow to their religion and way of life.  From the time of the signing of the armistice between the warring factions on the Korean Peninsula in 1953, a succession of governments have watched the murderous North Korean dictator dynasty grow into what it has now become, a serious nuclear threat to it’s immediate neighbors and the rest of the world.

Iran and North Korea have become an unholy alliance while the United Nations sat by and let it happen.  That organization is no more effective than it’s predecessor, the League of Nations, which imploded prior to World War Two.  Now, so-called “Progressives” in this country and elsewhere are fighting the efforts of the Trump administration to address these dangerous regimes and eliminate their threat to world peace and stability.  When will these naive and ill-informed people figure out that bleeding for a shark, while trying to appease it, only invites a larger, and perhaps fatal bite?
