Look at the ridiculous picture at the left. Question: Who would try to imply that our President would ever associate himself with an organization based on hatred and discord? Answer: Leftist Democrats. There is something systemically wrong with todays Democratic Party. It started a very long time ago, prior even to the American Civil War. At that time, the Democrats, both north and south, were advocates of the practice of slavery in this country. Every state which seceded from the Union was controlled by Democrats.
After the south was defeated, there was continuing resistance to the abolishment of slavery. The infamous Klu Klux Klan was founded by Nathan Bedford Forrest, a Confederate general and staunch Democrat. The activities of the Klan were supported by most Democratic politicians. Most of the former slaves, if they chose to engage in political activities, were registered Republicans, the party of Abraham Lincoln, which had pushed through Amendments to the Constitution granting the freed slaves the full rights of citizenship.
These rights were systematically violated in the south by the passing of the so-called “Jim Crow” laws, which attempted, successfully in most cases, to deny blacks their Constitutional rights. For nearly a hundred years, southern and northern Democrats fought against any form of equal rights legislation.
Democrat President Woodrow Wilson, a notorious racial bigot and anti-semite, reinstituted the practice of racial segregation in our military and other government agencies, a system abolished after the Civil War. That system remained in place until being once again abolished in 1948 under the Truman administration.
After fighting against the concept for over a hundred years, the Democrats during the Johnston administration finally reluctantly voted with the Republicans to pass the Equal Rights Act of 1964, thereby officially ending legal racial discrimination in this country. Amazingly, the Democrats have been able to convince blacks, Hispanics and other minorities that they have always represented their best interests. The party looks on them today as loyal voting blocks.
The latest example of division and discord sown by the Democrats is the support for the Black Lives Matter groups and elements of the “Antifa” movements. Violent actions by these people and other leftists is tacitly condoned by Democrat politicians across the country. This has led to an alarming increase of violence against law enforcement personnel. Instead of respecting and supporting our police, big City Mayors like New York Mayor Bill de Blasio turn their back when the police are taunted and attacked by unruly mobs. The death toll among members of the “Thin Blue Line” increases almost on a daily basis.
I may be wrong, but it is my opinion that the Democratic Party, as it is presently constituted, is beyond redemption. The actions taken against President Trump since he was legally elected in 2016 go far beyond mere political debate. They are hurting this nation in a way that is almost treasonous, and at the least very dangerous to our way of life. Instead of calling for, or supporting the amorphous concept of “Resistance” against the Trump administration, former Presidents Carter, Clinton and Obama should have instead come up with plans to solve the many problems this country faces in an increasingly dangerous world. They haven’t, and so may find that they have doomed their party to political extinction. 2020 will be a very interesting year politically. We can only hope that Americans will repudiate the politics of division and discord preached by the Democrat left, and that party will once again become “The Loyal Opposition”, putting the good of the country above their selfish political agendas. If they fail to do so, they may discover that next year will become the beginning of the end for their party. Americans know who founded the Klan, and it wasn’t the Replublicans.
