Most of us have heard the parable about boiling a frog.  If you bring a pot of water to a boil and drop a frog in, it will most probably jump back out.  Scalded perhaps, but at least with a chance of survival.  On the other hand, if you put the frog in a pot of room temperature water, and slowly bring it to a boil, the frog won’t notice the rise in temperature until it is too late, and it has literally been boiled alive.

In many ways, that is what the liberal/progressives have done to people all over the globe since the Chinese Communist Party unleashed the Wuhan virus on the world early last year.  First, the “experts”, led by Dr. Anthony Fauci, told us that the Covid-19 virus was not a threat, no worse that the seasonal flu.  We were then told that it wasn’t necessary to wear surgical masks or latex gloves. 

Within a few weeks that narrative completely changed.  Now, we were told by those same experts that the virus was a deadly pandemic, which could only be controlled if we would shelter in place for two weeks to “flatten the curve” of new cases being reported.  In another reversal, we were advised to always wear a mask, even when we were outdoors and not in contact with others.  Further, “social distancing” of a minimum of six feet separation from others was mandatory, even if we were wearing a medical grade mask.

Gatherings of individuals outside our immediate household were banned.  Attending religious services, funerals or any other similar type of activity was prohibited.   In many states, even more draconian measures were implemented.  All schools were ordered closed.  Athletic contests were cancelled, using a private boat was added to an ever growing list of prohibited activities.  All aspects of our daily lives were being controlled by government mandates.

It soon became evident that certain sectors of the population were more susceptible to the virus than others.  The elderly, especially those over the age of eighty, were dying in disproportionate numbers, especially if they had certain “comorbidity” conditions such as diabetes, COPD or heart problems.  People who were morbidly obese were also at greater risk, but frequently that was due to the fact that their overweight condition led to diabetes or other medical complications.

As the weeks passed, some states, particularly those run by Democrat administrations, doubled down on their restrictions.  It became evident that certain politicians were becoming enamored  with the power they were being allowed to wield over their constituents.  The wearing of masks became mandatory in some states, even if you were outside, alone, and in breezy conditions where there was absolutely no possibility of transmitting the virus to anyone else.
