Liberals And Their “Anaconda Plan”

At the beginning of the American Civil War, aging Union General-In-Chief Winfield Scott proposed what he called the “Anaconda Plan” as a mechanism to end the rebellion of the southern states by creating a total blockade of the southern ports and so prevent the Confederacy from exporting it’s main crop, cotton, and importing the necessary war materials to prosecute it’s secession from the Union.  It was basically a bloodless plan, and if allowed to be put in place and enforced, might have prevented the killing fields which became so prevalent in that horrible conflict.  Unfortunately, President Lincoln listened to other council, which predicted a swift military victory against the Confederate forces, and resulted in nearly five years of bloody conflict instead.
